Volumetric weight
Formula for calculating the volumetric weight of a box
Volumetric weight for national shipments
Inviapacchi.it considers the taxable weight of the shipment:
the minimum rates applied are calculated based on the WEIGHT VOLUME of the shipment. The volume weight of the shipment can be calculated by multiplying the three dimensions of the package (height, width and length) expressed in cm and dividing the result by 5000.
The coefficient to be used to calculate the volumetric weight of a single package, using this formula:
- 1 cubic meter = 100cm x 100cm x 100cm = 1,000,000 cubic cm
- 1,000,000 cubic cm /200, a coefficient of 5000 is obtained (in the case of 200 kg).
- At this point we can calculate the volume of the package we want to ship, for example:
- 50 cm long x 30 cm wide x 20 cm high - 50x30x20 = 30,000 cubic cm
- 30,000 cubic cm / 5000 (previously obtained coefficient) = 6 Kg which is the volumetric weight of the package.
Therefore, if the package in the example actually weighed 2 kg, having a volumetric weight of 6 kg (calculated on the basis of the volume and the coefficient given by the carrier), for the purposes of calculating the cost of shipping, the greater of the two, or 6 kg.
Volumetric weight for international shipments
The volume weight of the shipment can be calculated by multiplying the three dimensions of the package (height, width and length) expressed in cm and dividing the result by 5000.
When sorting packages in plants equipped with automatic sorting systems, the weights, volumes and taxable weights are also automatically checked and any incorrect values entered incorrectly at the start are automatically corrected for billing purposes.
The customer is advised to carefully check, before sending, the weight and volume of the shipment: any discrepancies will be verified and any additional costs with related penalties will be requested (described in the contract)
